A new semester is here and we can happily say its already starting off on the right foot. With Paris Couture Fashion Week having just begun, the BSA fashion show only a couple months away and Spring weather right around the corner, there’s a lot to be excited for. Well Loyola Lookers, it has come to our last issue of the semester and on behalf of the staff, we wanted to thank you all for coming to our site each week to read the wonderful articles our writers have written for us. Our site’s popularity has steadily been growing and we owe it all to our loyal readers! We have a great assortment of winter and holiday articles for this last week before finals, to help you get ready for the holiday shopping and parties coming your way. To close our last post for the semester, we have a special message from our President, Rachel Sims:

Hey everyone! I have a special request to ask all you readers. I’ve been asked by my good friend, Meg Conley, to appear in a holiday web video for JC Penny titled “Shoppers in Panic”. The video will feature other fashion and lifestyle bloggers who will be giving tips to last minute shoppers during this busy holiday season. We would really like to help our readers out by answering some of their biggest gift giving questions such as “what to buy for your bf”, or “what chic gifts you can find for under $25.00″. Holiday tears?

Back from Thanksgiving break and now the real work begins. With group projects, tests, and papers filling up our schedules, it is the time of year where the stress level for students are shooting out the roof. All nighters will become the norm, our coffee intake will quadruple, our stylish outfits will consist of sweatpants and hoodies, and the words “Christmas break” will be our only type of motivation to get through the last three weeks. At a time of gift giving and holiday cheer, shouldn’t the opposite be true? We should be skipping across campus with smiles on our faces and a song with each step. Instead we’ve made the library our second home and are miserable to the point of tears. Do yourself a favor. Stop what you’re doing, close your eyes, and just breathe for ten minutes. Then turn away from your work and do something else for an hour, like read our new Loyola Looks articles! It’s so important to take breaks from your work every hour or so, otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy and may even end up screaming or crying in the library. You don’t want to be that person, trust me…We’ve got some great articles this week for the holiday season and have a special gift guide to help you figure out what to get your loved ones in the next couple of weeks. Turkey Time, Almost Here!

The fall weather does not seem to want to come around the Baltimore area this November. The warm weather means we get to enjoy more beautiful days as the 2011 year comes to and end, but it also means that we can’t pull out our favorite boots and jackets as much yet! What a predicament! There are so many fun trends for the fall weather we want to try and so little time before the snow comes around (crossing our fingers its not too soon!) With only a week left before Thanksgiving break, the Loyola professors are cracking down on students to get their last minute tests, assignments and projects in before leaving for 6 days. Independent Women

There’s no better way to start off the week than by praising the powerful, independent, successful, and amazing women of our world. Glamour held its annual Women of the Year Awards on Monday night with honorees such as Tory Burch, Gabrielle Giffords, Jennifer Lopez, and Arianna Huffington. The beautiful women left us with goosebumps after thier inspirational speeches. Arianna Huffington gave viewers some words of wisdom, “Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s a step towards success“. And so did Withelma “T” Ortiz-Macey (children’s advocate after surviving sex trafficking as a 10-year-old), “Don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t have the power to do anything you that you want … Don’t allow anyone to let you think that your light cannot shine.” And Chelsea Handler always has some uplifting words for her fellow females, “You really can do whatever it is you want to do. You just have to get out there and #*(!&*@ do it!“. Although none of us are at the star-level yet to attend this star-studded event, we have a couple of Loyola Looks women who are well on their way with some articles for your reading pleasure. Enjoy!

Snow Already?

I think its safe to say that winter is well on its way with most of the northeast hit by the crazy October snowstorm this past week. I hope everyone was prepared with their new winter boots and jackets! Luckily, Loyola and the Baltimore area didn’t get any snow, just a few snow flurries saturday so most were ready for the Halloweekend. The city was crawling with superheros, cats, rock stars, celebrities, and even some pirates. But now its time to get back into our normal, everyday clothes as we gear up for the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving break!

It’s that time of year again where scary movies, hot apple cider, pumpkin picking, and haunted hay rides fill our weekend schedules. The weeks leading up to Halloween aren’t the best just because we can use it as an excuse to snuggle with our boyfriends, but we get to use our creative sides to come up with awesome costumes to show off our most fab self. Leave your costume making to the last minute? Check out stores like American Apparel who sell an assortment of basics to come up with something quick but sexy. Fall is finally here and it’s time to trade in our sandals and shorts for stylish leggings, leather boots, and comfy cashmere sweaters. Last Issue of the Semester!!!

Loyola Lookers it is our last issue of the semester! The board would like to take this time to thank all of you for coming to the site this past year. Our readership has definitely increased and we’re going to do our best to broaden that readership even more next year. There will be some exciting new changes to the site come fall and we couldn’t be more eager to get started up again in September. We’re sad to see our senior members leave us this spring. Especially to Jacqueline McCormick who has been an amazing Vice President, Writer, and Editor for the site this year. We wish all our seniors luck as they embark on their next chapters of life!

We are looking for new staff members the 2011-2012 year so if you’re interested email Rachel at rcsims@loyola.edu. In the meantime check out our final 3 articles:
